She has over 20 years of experience working with youth and families in the areas of behavioral health and education. Gomez-Whaley is a first-generation American (on her mother’s side), as well as a first-generation college graduate holding a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in legal studies, a master’s degree in public administration, and is a certified Professional of Human Resources (PHR). Their daughter, who is active in various school activities, is currently enrolled in WESD. Their son, who is gifted and has disabilities, attended WESD for grades 2-8 and is currently at Washington High School. Gomez-Whaley and her husband have lived in the WESD boundaries since 2009. She previously served two terms as vice president. She served as president from January to May 2023. She was appointed to serve a two-year term in March of 2017 and was re-elected to a two-year term in November 2018. Nikkie Gomez-Whaley was elected to a four-year term in November 2020. Clayton likes to volunteer at his son's school and work in his backyard garden. He is married to his partner of 15 years, and has one son who currently attends a WESD school. Clayton has lived in the district for 13 years. Clayton is also a member of several associations, including the Young Entrepreneurs Council, National Association of REALTORS® and the Green Resource Council. He is an active community service member as a Miracle Agent, benefitting the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Clayton is a graduate of Arizona State University with a bachelor's in Spanish and an International Business Certification from the W.P. Clayton is an Arizona native, and works as a REALTOR® and entrepreneur. He began his term as vice president in May 2023. Kyle Clayton is currently serving his first term on the Governing Board after being elected in November 2022. I am committed to working with my colleagues on the board to create a more equalized environment for students.” During this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the social, emotional, physical, and mental health and safety of our students is more important than ever. “I believe equitable public education creates productive individuals and builds strong communities. Abbott-Bayardi is also an active parent athletic supporter at Thunderbird High School. High Youth Leader at Phoenix First United Methodist Church. Abbott-Bayardi has held many volunteer positions including Shadow Rock Preschool Board member, Asbury United Methodist, and Shadow Rock UCC Stewardship Chair and is currently the Jr. Abbott-Bayardi also served on the Parent Leadership Team for three years at the Washington Elementary School District. She was on the PTA at John Jacobs and Cholla Middle School. Abbott-Bayardi has been an active member of the district as a parent volunteer at John Jacobs, Sahuaro, Cholla and Mountain Sky where her three children attended. Her parents were educators at many WESD schools throughout their 30 years. She grew up in the Washington Elementary School District and attended Desert Foothills and Acacia. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Abbott-Bayardi is an Arizona native and works in pharmaceutical sales. She began her term as president in May 2023 after serving as vice president from January to May 2023. Jenni Abbott-Bayardi is currently serving her first term on the Governing Board after being elected in November 2020.
